Colorado, with its varied terrain, relatively cheap cost of living, and artistic vibe, makes for a fantastic place to make a movie. But, the Denver area has made just as many movie STARS as it has movies. Of the many celebrities who have called the Denver metro home, here are a few notable actors worth mentioning.
Pam Grier
Pam Grier, though born in North Carolina, went to high school and college in the Denver metro. In fact, she entered multiple beauty contests, including coming in third in the 1967 Colorado state competition for Miss Universe Beauty pageant, in order to pay her tuition to Metro State, right in the heart of Denver.
Don Cheadle
In 1982 East High School graduated a then unknown, Don Cheadle. In 2005, he was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Hotel Rwanda. Film-goers will recognize his face as Basher Tarr of the hugely popular Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen. Also, he played War Machine in Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Amy Adams
Sweet, girl-next door Amy Adams grew up in the suburb just south of Denver, Castle Rock. She sang in the school choir at Douglas County High School. For a short time after graduation, before she was Giselle in Enchanted, she could have been your waitress at the Denver Hooter’s.
Tim Allen
Tim Allen (Timothy Allen Dick) was actually born in Denver, as well as his four other brothers. He knew all too well the booming real estate market, as his father provided a wonderful home for the 5 Dick children as a Real Estate agent. Regrettably, he passed with Tim was 11 and a second marriage precipitated the family’s move to Michigan. Perhaps all the moving around and ensuing home repairs prepared him for his biggest role as Tim “the Tool Man” Taylor on the hilarious sitcom Home Improvement.
Jessica Biel
Jessica Biel grew up in Boulder, CO. She graduated from Fairview High School, where she played soccer, before leaving Colorado to attend Tufts University. America’s love affair with the exquisite Ms. Biel started during 7th Heaven where she played the second oldest child (Mary Camden) of the local minister. Jessica has several projects currently in production, and is married to Justin Timberlake. They recently welcomed a beautiful son, Silas Randall.
Sinbad
For those stars who aren’t blessed enough to be born and raised here, the Denver area boasts some of the best schools in the nation. This comes as no surprise to Sinbad (David Adkins) who attended University of Denver (right in the heart of the city) from 1974 to 1978. Not only did he take classes, but lettered two seasons for the DU Pioneers Basketball Team.

It’s no wonder with all the amazing scenery and lively art venues that great stars come from the Denver metro area. The mountains, with all their character, give hope and inspiration to all those who live here, regardless of how long or how late. Some of these stars are dramatic actors; some make us laugh. But all of these former Denver citizens entertain us, and we thank them.
